I was born in Staten Island, New York, and so if I wanted to impress a certain group of individuals in a certain way I would tell them I am from Staten Island. Four months after I was born my mother and father returned to Korea, specifically to Daegu, the fourth largest city in Korea. I would say it was a good balance; I would satisfy my American dad by getting my fill of "America" at my English-speaking school, then would return home to satisfy my Korean mother by being immersed in the Korean culture the rest of the time.
Word Count: 100
You're right, living in Staten Island is impressive. After reading your first sentence I thought, "cool". But I can't imagine how different the cultures must be between Staten Island and Korea.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I didn't see where you included a word count. (just a heads up)
Where was that photograph taken? I went through Daegu a few times when I used to go back and forth from Pusan to Seoul, and although it's the fourth largest city there isn't much to do there. I imagine Staten Island is kind of the same, sort of like Baltimore.
ReplyDeleteI'm part Korean as well! Unfortunately, I was never immersed in the Korean culture. My mother never taught me Korean or ever cooked Korean dishes.
